The International Buyer’s Guide – Sourcing Stainless Steel Sheets from China

Meta Description: Sourcing stainless steel sheets from China? Learn about quality control, packaging, shipping, and payment terms. Trusted Wuxi supplier serving Europe, USA, Middle East, and Africa.

Introduction

Sourcing stainless steel from overseas, especially China, can be risky if you don't know the supplier. Issues like wrong finishes, poor packaging (resulting in scratched sheets), or delayed shipments are common. As a company established in 2012 in Wuxi – the largest steel distribution center in East China – we have perfected the export process.

We serve Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, North America, and Oceania. Here’s what you need to know.

Why Wuxi?

Wuxi is China's steel hub. With 20,000 sqm of indoor storage, we hold massive inventory. Being near ports (Shanghai/Ningbo) ensures rapid loading and competitive freight rates.

Our Quality Promise
  • Material Certification: Mill test certificates (MTC) for every heat number.

  • Surface Inspection: Every sheet is checked for scratches, oil spots, and color uniformity (for PVD).

  • Dimensional Tolerance: +/- 0.05mm for thickness, +/- 1mm for length/width.

Packaging Details (Critical for Polished Sheets)

Polished and mirror sheets are easily damaged in transit. Our 4-step packaging process:

  1. Each sheet is covered with a protective wood plate.

  2. Interleaving paper and foam between sheets.

  3. Strong wooden packages strapped with steel bands.

  4. Container loading photos taken, and container sealed. We inform the customer at each step.

Shipping

We handle all logistics: sea freight (FOB/CIF), air freight for samples, and rail to Europe. Typical lead time: 15-25 days after deposit.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is your Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?

A: For standard sizes (1220x2440mm) in common finishes (2B, Hairline), MOQ is 1 ton. For custom colors (PVD titanium) or mirror-polished sheets, MOQ is 2-3 tons per size/color.

Q2: How do you ensure the mirror finish doesn't scratch before arrival?

A: We apply a thick, peelable PVC film (clear or blue) that remains until installation. Then, each sheet is placed in a wooden crate – not just wrapped in plastic. Wooden plates separate each sheet. We have never had a major surface claim from our container loadings.

Q3: Can you provide samples before bulk order?

A: Yes. Free samples (A5 size, 100x100mm) are available for standard finishes. You pay shipping. Production samples (full sheet) can be charged and later refunded with the bulk order.

Q4: What payment terms do you accept?

A: Typically, T/T (30% deposit, 70% against copy of Bill of Lading) or irrevocable L/C at sight. For first-time buyers, we recommend T/T or escrow.

Q5: How do I know you are a real factory vs. a trading company?

A: We are a manufacturing-integrated trading company with our own 20,000 sqm warehouse and processing lines. We welcome video calls, plant visits (Wuxi), and third-party inspections (SGS, BV).
